It was a Sunday morning. Thomas was getting ready to go on a date with Emma, the girl he fell in love with since the first time he saw her, 4 years ago.
He got out of the house just to see her, on the other side of the road, already waiting outside for him. She smiled & waved at him. For Thomas, it was the best day of his life! Both of them were immersed in each other so much that they didn’t notice the honking car until it was too late. “EMMA!!!” Thomas shouted. The two drunk teenagers, Derek & John, got out of the car, injured. Thomas, shocked, unable to make any sense out of what had happened. When he laid eyes on the teenagers, he ran back to the house, angry while tears rolled down his cheeks. “Damn! Is she dead. What do you think, dude?” Derek asked John “Not sure about her but… I think we will be...” John answered while shivering. Behind them was Thomas, holding a shot gun, pointed at them. “What the hell, dude? Are you crazy?” Derek said. “You killed her! YOU KILLED HER!” Thomas couldn’t control his anger. Thomas in his rage, shot one dead while the other managed to run away. Thomas ran after him but to no avail. The police arrived at the scene and arrested Thomas. He was jailed for life. His parents were informed but there was nothing they could do for their son. In the jail, life was slowly ending from within Thomas but he wasn’t willing to die. “They were the criminals. They killed Emma. They deserved to die. These idiots are keeping me here for no reason at all.” Thomas said to himself. “I’ll get out of this place. I’ll avenge her. He thinks he can just run away like that and live, while my Emma is dead?” A few days passed, Thomas wouldn’t eat anything in the jail. His rage grew, but his life was ending. “I’m sorry but… your son, Thomas passed away.” Officer informed Thomas’s parents. He was buried in the night but the willingness to live was too strong. Thomas opened his eyes, screamed! “Let me out! I’m not dead!” He made his way out the grave through his bare hands, to find an old man, wearing a robe & a hat, looking at him. It was as if the old man knew Thomas was alive. |

“Hello, Thomas. My name is Aclius. I’ve come to help you.”
Thomas was confused. He helped himself up. Looked at his hands & got scared. “Wait! No… No… What happened to me? I’m alive!!!... I’m dead?” His voice was very heavy. He was half dead, half alive. The only thing he could remember, was his name. Aclius said, “Thomas! You have a very strong will. You’ve been reborn as a ghoul. There’s a world beneath us, a world of supernatural.” He continued to explain that there are two forces, Sentinels and the Legion which have been at war for years. Aclius was the grand wizard that led the Sentinels & he was gathering strong willed warriors for his army to win against the legion. They had been trying to stop the Legion from reaching the upper world of humans. Thomas agreed to go with, in hope that maybe Aclius could help him find his reality. Of all the hundreds of creatures under the command of the wizard, none resembled Thomas. The feeling of being an outcast made Thomas run away. He found himself in a dead place. No sign of any life. The ground, dark & burnt. “Who are you!?” a voice asked him from the shadows. “I…I’m Thomas.” He said while moving towards the shadows. “Looks like you’ve found your way home, Thomas.” A ghoul came out of the shadows. Finally, meeting someone like himself, Thomas felt at ease and accepted. The ghoul took him to the army camps and showed him the legion. Ekris, the head of the legion explained to Thomas how Aclius fakes his recruitment idea just to lead the new found ghouls into his territory & kill them, so that the legion could be weakened. To avenge the ghouls Aclius had killed over the years, the legion will make its move now & it need Thomas more than ever. Thomas, a simple minded ghoul accepted whatever he heard from Ekris. It was the night for the ambush. The legion made its way towards the Sentinel camps. “You simple minded fools! You think you could take us out during the night & we won’t expect it? Huh! DIE!” Shouted one of them men from the Sentinels. The Sentinel was prepared. The two forces fought well. Both lost its warriors. But Thomas wanted revenge on Aclius for lying to him. “That liar said he’ll help. He was planning on killing me? I’ll teach him a lesson.” Thomas made his way towards Aclius who was on the front lines, casting a spell to create a shield for the Sentinel. He ran towards the wizard but got struck by the axe carrying centaur. Thomas fought the centaur. Almost on the verge of dying, Thomas’s instincts told him to try and get inside of the centaur. His claws made way into the centaur’s belly & in went Thomas. He ate him from the inside. The centaur screamed in agony but no was knew what was happening until Thomas came out of him, leaving him dead. The centaur’s flesh gave Thomas back his strength. He moved towards Aclius but before he could reach, the wizard called upon an angelic being, named Misha, made of pure light. “Em… Emma!?” Misha reminded him of his love. He felt his sanity, his memory coming back to him. Misha killed almost half of the army of the legion while the rest retreated. Seeing the Sentinel making its way towards himself, Thomas ran. He saw a creature that looked a deer. He went inside of it to hide himself but it was no use, the Sentinel knew about his wild ability & came to strike a blow at the creature. Scared, Thomas wanted the creature to move away and hide. “RUN BACK!” Surprisingly, the creature ran as Thomas wished it to. “I can… control you?” Thomas realized he couldn’t just get inside the body of anything he wanted but he could even control it. Down came the hammer onto the creature Thomas possessed and it died. The Sentinel marched its way towards the camps of the Legion to end it. “I had been keeping an eye on you, Thomas. I’ve met many warriors but none like you. No one has ever been able to cheat death only based on the strength of his will, but you did. Ghouls are simple minded creatures with less memory of their past lives. If that wasn’t the case, you could’ve been the greatest warrior anyone could have ever known.” Aclius said his last words while standing near the dead creature knowing that this time, Thomas really had died… Or did he? |
