Exclusive Short Story
The Night Traveler (Part 3)
I should probably introduce myself officially. My name is Alexandria Sarah Kiloso. I don't remember the first time someone called me ASK for short. The nickname just stuck and now that's how I introduce myself. I was born in a small town of Sugarloaf Pennsylvania. My father owed some type of industrial factory located in Hazleton. I was homeschooled which was unusual back then. My tutorial who visit four days a week and the other three days were spent with my mother learning how to be 'useful' as she liked to call it. I learned photography from my uncle who helped run my father's company. My father was more a business man with paperwork unlike my uncle who was full of energy and hands on in everything he did. My uncle bought me my first camera and told me to go capture life. I would walk along the train tracks and spend mornings capturing images of local farms. By the time I turned 18 I was ready to venture out. My father had started an account for me the day I was born is hopes I would create and expand his business. He had hoped for a son, but my mother had trouble conceiving children. I was their miracle.
I had been trekking across the United States for a year when I got word that my mother was greatly ill. I was on my way back home when I was merely a day away when I made the call home that changed my life. If it wasn't for becoming the UnDead I would claim that was the most life changing event I ever had. My uncle answered the phone when I called my house. The worst had happened. My mother had gotten progressively worse and while my father was driving her to the hospital he ended up losing control of his car and ended up in a snow drift. It had been March and the snow was still falling in the area I grew up in. The roads would get icy and the town would use coal dust to help give the roads traction. When my father had decided it was long overdue to rush my mom to the hospital, it had been snowing all night right after it had been sleeting rain hours before sunset. The roads covered in ice then coated with snow where too much for the town to get fixed where the majority of citizens did not live. I returned home to an empty house. My uncle made all the arrangements for my parents burial. They were buried in a small cemetery in my hometown. The ceremony was small but was shared with what seemed like hundreds of people that my parents knew.
My uncle took over my father's company and gave me my inheritance. I sold the home I grew up in and made the decision to travel and experience life. It only took two years for my photography to gain popularity. I wasn't limited on where I could go or what I could do. I was determined to live life to it's fullest, and that's when I met him. He was the man who took my life away and gave me something else. He gave me not something more, but something totally different and unexpected.
